2011 ABOS MOC Overview of Board Certification Computer Administered Clinical Examination
Completing the Application Recertification Examinations

The Recertification Examinations are for Diplomates of the ABOS who wish to renew their certification. Diplomates are eligible to take a recertification examination up to two years prior to the expiration year of their certificate. They may apply up to three years prior to the expiration of their certificate, as the application is due in the year prior to the examination. The application, once approved, is then valid for three years.  Diplomates with certificates that are not time-limited may apply any year, and that application will be valid for 3 years. Those wishing to apply can do so on-line at this website beginning February 1 of each year.

The purpose of the Recertification Examination is to evaluate the orthopaedist's continuing competence. This is done through CME, credentialing, and examination. First, all applicants must have completed the MOC process. Then the Credentials Committee meets to review information received on applicants and determine admissibility. Diplomates approved to sit have their choice of pathway for examination. Their options are: Exam Options.
